Business Agility Drift

The agility drift figure does show how industry can drift or force out organizations, as well as illustrating where agility is needed and where it plays a crucial role.

  • 1. The organization is in tune with the business space. Decision makers within the organization have successfully predicted an industry change and adjusted products and services to remain aligned to the stakeholders’ needs.
  • 2. Decision makers have lost the ability to understand the probable future and have missed the opportunity to change direction. The organization continues to create products and services with diminishing revenue/profit for the organization.
  • 3. The need for change has been recognized and a change in direction implemented.
  • 4. The longer the organization remains outside the market space the higher the probability that they will fail as their wisdom, culture and operational agility is eroded.
  • 5. The organization has used their collective understanding to identify potential future but in this case a combination of culture and organizational inertia has meant that the market has shifted again.
